Bernie Ecclestone, ex-chefe da Fórmula 1, foi condenado a 17 meses de prisão e recebeu uma multa de 750 milhões de euros (R$ 4 bilhões, na cotação de hoje).

Ele confessou ser culpado no tribunal de Londres por sonegar impostos ao Tesouro Britânico. O acordo foi referente a 18 anos de impostos não pagos por parte de Ecclestone.

O bilionário de 92 anos não vai cumprir pena em regime fechado por conta de sua idade. A pena foi suspensa por dois anos.

Segundo o tribunal, Ecclestone não declarou ativos de 400 milhões de libras mantidos em contas em Singapura. Além disso, ele mentiu quando o questionaram sobre o assunto numa reunião em 2015.

O britânico inicialmente negou as acusações, ele disse, em 2015, que apenas tinha um fundo para suas três filhas, Deborah, Tamara e Petra.
Ecclestone foi o presidente da Fórmula 1 de 1978 até 2017. Ele acumulou fortuna que chega a R$ 15,8 bilhões.
